FLASHBACK INTERVIEW

Kidson meets up with award winning DJ Flashback before Epidemiks 12th Birthday
event @ Ministry Of Sound.

So, you’ve been DJing a long time – What and when was your big break?

I’ve been DJing since 1990 but break-wise it’s gotta be playing at the infamous ‘Raindance Reunion’ parties over in Berwick Manor, Essex in the mid-nineties -  that’s where my association with Raindance started, the rest, as they say,  is history!

Played any good gigs recently? Any in the pipeline?

Yeah, played at some wicked parties in the last couple of months: I’ve got to big up,
Decade of Dance, History of Hardcore, Riverdance, Re-Rave-All, Sonic Dance etc.
Got loads coming up soon including The Vinyl Touch, Sonic Dance, Drum Project, the massive Ministry of sound Epidemik Birthday Party where we’re doing a Flashback Project Live PA,
The K2 Sessions and Poland and Switzerland early next year.

‘The K2 Sessions’? What’s that?

It’s a wicked new night I’m co-promoting. We’re holding exclusive, private parties (i.e. members
and invited guests only) at a secret location in London with some of the scene’s leading
artists. The beats will range from old skool, jungle, old and upfront hardcore through to breaks and drum ‘n’ bass. The launch night is November 23rd so really looking forward to that.

Where can people catch you New Years Eve?

Moondance @ The SE1, as ever! I’ve played all the NYE parties there for the last few years. It’s going be a MASSIVE party –probably the best NYE party in the UK – it’ll be a guaranteed sell-out J

So, whats happening release-wise for ‘The Flashback Project’?

We’ve got 3 releases out at the moment: ‘Hands In The Air’ on Mertwax, ‘The Masterplan’/’My Feeelings’ on Junk Munki Recordsand ‘Another Dimension’/‘Obsession Remix’ on Tornado Records. All available as vinyl and as high quality mp3 downloads!

Been busy in studio recently?

Yep, proper busy! Doing loads of my own stuff with Hattixx, as per usual. Have also recently
been in studio with ‘Sparky’ working on an exclusive Ministry Of Sound album mix of one
of my tracks for Slipmatt & Billy Bunter. Also, am working on a prodigy-style remix for
an American label. More info soon.

Any new signings / planned releases?

Yes, ‘You Got It’ with DJ Malice on Firewall Records is due for release in the next few months.
Also am representing with Angie Bown on new Ministry Of Sound album released this Xmas.
I’m planning to put out The Flashback Project Xmas 2007 Sampler soon including all of my new
and exclusive bits – look out for that!. Rleases lined up so far for early next year are ‘The Wall
Of Sound’ EP on Tornado Records, something brand new for Junki Munki Records and well
as the US release.

Any other plans for the New Year?

Am currently sorting out a deal to put a compilation album together so will be working on that.
Looking forward to going out to Poland again with DJ Tornado to play, also Parts 2 & 3 of ‘The K2 Sessions’, should be out and about a fair bit. Lots more ideas for new tracks and tunes,, also exploring the live PA angle more!

What are your most memorable DJ’ing moments?

Playing for ‘Innovation’ in Switzerland and ‘1Nation’ in Germany a few years ago – both 100%
sold-out drum ‘n’ bass nights but also with thousands and thousands of old skool nutters going mental! Also New Years Eve 2002/03 playing at Fantasy Island, Skegness - undoubtedly one
of the best venues in the country. Not forgetting ofcourse the countless Raindances i’ve
played over the years!

What’s been your proudest moment in music so far?

It’s got to be when I received my ‘Best New Era DJ’ award on stage at Camden Palace
at ‘The Official Old Skool Awards’ in 2006 -  that’s what it’s all about.
